Rage Boy Sighting!

There appears to be something of a tiff going on in Srinagar right now, with the wires reporting that they're in the midst of an 8-day strike, instigated by the hardline (and totally "rageiriffic") All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

You know what that means, don't you?

Kashmiri muslims shout pro freedom slogans during a protest in summer capital of Indian Kashmir June 29, 2008. Police fired teargas shells for a 7th Day on Sunday as hundreds of stone pelting protesters staged fresh street demonstrations in parts of Kashmir's main city against a government decision to transfer forest land to a Hindu shrine trust. At least 4 People died and 450 Including Protestors and Security men are injured since the protest began (Newscom TagID: zumawirewestphotos189907) [Photo via Newscom]

Far be it from me to point out that the timing of this protest, which started on about the same day I left town on vacation, is totally coincidental. Honest.

Anyway, more fully-licensed Islamic Rage Boy hilarity can be found beyond the fold. Stay tuned for updates! Continue reading »

Rage Friends Sighting!

I got an e-mail from a little soon-to-be-announced birdie, asking if I'd like to try out a new service that he's thinking of subscribing to that would allow something unspecified related to photo wire services—Which sounds fantastic to me, considering my history in the matter.

As an immediate test of this new service, here's a sighting today of some Friends of Shakeel "Islamic Rage Boy" Bhat in Srinagar—What else did you expect me to search for?—Imagine that: Rage Giant (L) and the Rage Pirate (R), both in one shot!

I'll update with the correct attribution when I can find it.) [Photo via Newscom]

Rage Giant Sighting

Feel his rage.
It looks like one of Islamic Rage Boy's best friends has been spotted in the news again, this time protesting against the transfer of forest land to a shrine. Here's the wire coverage, courtesy our friends at Agence France-Presse and European Press Agency:

I haven't seen any sign of Shakeel "IRB" Bhat yet, but if he shows up, you know we'll be there to cover it!

Something big's going on over in Srinagar today—Here's the first of a handful of familiar faces.

(Friend of) Rage Boy Sighting

There appears to have been a "pro-freedom" protest in Indian-controlled Kashmir over the weekend, the type of event that Rage Boy used to love to attend. And, while Rage Boy is still nowhere to be seen, some of his friends seem to have made the trip this time:

Kashmiri Muslim separatist leaders shout pro-freedom slogans during a protest in Magam, some 25 kilometers (16 miles) north of Srinagar, India, Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007. Hundreds of people clashed with police Sunday in the Indian portion of Kashmir, hours after burying a 20-year-old man killed by police a day earlier. At least 35 people were injured. Those of you who've followed the "Rage Boy" series on this website will hopefully recognize Rage Giant in the picture above. Oh, and some context would probably be in order:—If the caption above left you with the impression that the Indian police forces just go about all of Kashmir, randomly killing Muslims, be sure to check out the following picture, taken during the Muslim riots at which the 20-year-old man was killed:

Kashmiri Muslim villagers set a police vehicle on fire during a protest in Magam 30 km (18 miles) west of Srinagar December 15, 2007. One person was killed and seven others were wounded when police opened fire on hundreds of demonstrators demanding a college in their town, protesters said. Five policemen were also wounded in the clashes. REUTERS/Danish Ismail (INDIAN-ADMINISTERED KASHMIR)

More photos of the original riots, and the subsequent rent-a-mob "pro-freedom" protests, can be found beyond the fold. Continue reading »

Rage Boy Watch: Srinagar 30-Nov-2007

The All-Parties Hurriyat Conference, party of Rage Boy, seems to have hosted a "pro-freedom" protest over in Srinagar today. Will our eternally-enraged friend make an appearance? Only time will tell...

Update: Negatory. While we've seen some very familiar faces in the group, it would appear that Rage Boy was a no-show for this protest. Or if he was there, he was ignored by the reporters. (It's interesting to see the AFP step back and show us a glimpse of some of the other photographers present for this event. Are they finally heeding Christopher Hitchens' advice?)
