Magical Self-Destructing Houses

You might recall that we wrote about Palestinian "Self-Destructing" houses a little while back. Here's another example of this phenomenon, straight from the wires. Notice that no speculation is made as to the cause of the explosion, at least not by the caption writers. It takes little imagination, though, to come to the conclusion that the house just might have exploded because it, well, contained explosives.

Palestinians inspect the damage to a house following an explosion in the Beach Camp, in Gaza City, Monday, March 19, 2007. An explosion went off Monday in the home of an Islamic Jihad activist, killing the militant and wounding 20 others, Palestinian security officials said. The officials said Islamic Jihad militant Alla al-Hesi was killed, adding that children were among the wounded. (AP Photo/ Adel Hana)

Let's try my caption out for size:

There you have it, folks. I have more "investigative imagination" in my little pinky, than the entire editorial staff at the Associated Press and Reuters combined. And they say the press is "trustworthy!"

Be sure to keep reading, to see more magnificent examples of media myopia. Continue reading »

BBC Reporter Kidnapped

(h/t CAMERA Snapshots--no relation) Apparently, Alan Johnson, a correspondent for BBC in the Middle East, has been pulled from his car in Gaza City today and kidnapped by "Palestinians." No word yet on which faction is responsible or what their motivation is, but I suspect it's yet another bald money-grab, not that "Palestinians" are known for such things. With that in mind, I hope that the transaction is completed in short order, and Mr. Johnson is free to continue telling his stories safely soon thereafter.

Know thy enemies

Note that these "Lebanese" people are actively wishing for "Palestine's" liberation. But what does "liberation" mean to a muslim? Saddam Hussein had some ideas:

On October 9, 2000, Iraq announced that it was establishing training bases for Arab volunteers to fight in the coming war with Israel. Later that day, Saddam Hussein gave a speech following an Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council and Ba'ath party conference, in which he said: "The conference made a number of resolutions to support the heroic Intifada and to provide the necessities of the Palestinian jihad warriors, so that they are able to continue their heroic jihad to liberate Palestine from the river to the sea...[additionally] in response to the call of the masses, it was decided to open camps for volunteers for the jihad to liberate Palestine, to complete their military training, and the Ministry of Defense was instructed to give priority to those who entered weapons-training courses."[3]

If you're not aware of the geography of the region, I'd like to point out that the area of Israel that stretches from the [Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea, IS ISRAEL.

It's quite clear what these Islamic radicals want. And it's also clear that the media is doing their best to assist them!

Does this mean we're winning?

It appears that someone at the Editorial desk at Reuters is getting a bit jumpy. They've posted an updated copy of one of their photos to "clarify" that people in the background are not in the line of fire. Of course, we know the Palestinians would never put civilians in the line of fire, though it's pretty clear that this guy is shooting at Israeli forces, from within a group of civilians. Anyone want to bet what the international reaction would've been, had the IDF fired back and hit any of the civilians shielding this low-life?
