What happened to the pictures? Exhibit A, Exhibit B
Will they ever come back? Yes and no

Eulogizing Etiquette... and Copyright?

It concerns me to see pictures like this in the aftermath of the death of Reuters videographer Fadel Shana. It's one thing to pay respects to a comrade, that's obviously understandable.

It's the presence of the ginormous propaganda posters in the background that is a bit unsettling, at least to me.

Was this man a journalist, holding every side of a given issue to equal critique, aiming to bring the truth to discussion of modern events?

Or was he an activist, interested in promoting and supporting a very specific side of the conflict? A propagandist, if you will, bringing one very biased point of view to his coverage of news events on the ground?

Because, when I see propaganda posters like those posted in the picture above, I immediately think of the latter. Without question.

But hey, what are knee-jerk reactionaries for if their knees don't jerk on occasion?

To be charitable, I'll throw this one into "Human Shields" for now.

(Oh yeah, one wonders how the copyright on the propaganda posters would work, considering the photo was published on the Reuters wire. Who is "borrowing" from whom here, anyway?)

Gaza: Still Ragin' Against Denmark

As I predicted on Friday, the flames of hatred against Denmark are nowhere near spent at this point. From this morning, we see the peace-loving children jihadist killers of the Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees, raging against Denmark as hard as they can:

If this keeps up, Friday is going to be the best day of raaaage (and puppies), ever. Until then, at least we have plenty of the PRC "funneh" beyond the fold.

A Litany of Endless Demands

Hamas once again manipulates the entire population of the Gaza Strip into yet another photogenic mass rally "demanding" yet again that Israel ignore all of the crimes Hamas has committed against it and end the (rather gentle) embargo (more, more) against the terrorist entity.

The key has a very specific meaning, by the way. Also note that today's Friday, the Islamic day of prayer, so it's not like Hamas had to work very hard to get these loyal citizens out of their already-quite-mob-inciting mosques.

Update: Is this yet another anti-Annapolis protest? Some of the captions coming in indicate that this is the case, making this roughly Day 4 of Annapolis rage. Continue reading »

Kids and Not-So-Toy Guns?

The Augean Stables is suggesting that yesterday's toy gun-toting child might actually have been toting a real gun. I'll pass this one on to the experts and see what they say—I'm not convinced either way. What do you think? Feel free to share your expertise with us down in the comments.

Is this gun more real than it appears? (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Thanks to Hard Rain for pointing this out!

Incidentally, I am leaning towards the gun being a toy. Do real guns have big divots for screws in the side like this? By my guesstimate, this is a point where the plastic components of the "gun" are screwed together:

Sorry guys, but this looks like a toy to me.

Update: Augean Stables has removed their original blog entry, so I can only assume that we were on the mark here. Like I said in the comments over there, it's not like we don't have enough examples of Palestinian children using real guns to go around...

Worldwide Anti-Annapolis Protests: Day 1

It would seem that the entire ummah is on fire in protest against the farce of a conference in Annapolis. Finally, I am in agreement with the ummah on something (though I'd imagine for far different reasons). The highlight of today's protests? Perhaps the coolest portrait of Condoleeza Rice ever published, even outshining my previous fave:

I'll be rounding up the other highlights from around the world following the fold. Stay tuned for more!

Update: Someone has definitely been very busy spreading the propaganda about the Annapolis conference. Notice how all of these protests suggest that somehow, the United States and Israel are either conspiring to revoke the "right" of return, or how we're conspiring to seize Al-Aqsa. Very interesting coincidences, no?

(Regarding the "right" of return:—Keep in mind that with respect to any "peace" conference assembled, Palestinians demand an independent state of their own on one hand, yet they demand that Palestinian "refugees" maintain the "right" to return to Israel on the other. Sound confusing? Yeah, it might be—until you take a look at which map they are working from... It's all about "conquest," people. Nothing more, nothing less.)

UPDATE: According to the latest captions coming in, a man has been killed by Fatah security forces in Hebron, after being shot point-blank in the chest. Reports are that 15 other protesters have also been injured in the area—no specifics or details on them yet. Continue reading »

Children Against Annapolis

It would seem that even the ever-peaceful youths of the Palestinian terror-tories are lining up against Annapolis. Who would've expected such a position, from such a peaceful specimen as this:

A young Palestinian Hamas supporter holds a toy gun as he and others gather during a protest against the upcoming United States sponsored Annapolis meeting, in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 Israeli, Palestinian, Arab and world leaders are set to meet in Annapolis, Maryland next week at a U.S. hosted peace conference. The arabic text reads 'The is no God but God, and Muhammed is his prophet. ' (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Far be it from me to state the obvious, but there is absolutely zero chance of success at Annapolis, considering that one side of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict has been raised for generations with an irrational hatred that can never be negotiated away.

"Clashes" at Arafat Memorial

Update: This picture is quite a fitting highlight.

"Pheer our moderation."

Orig: Female Palestinian Fatah supporters gather at a rally marking the third anniversary of the death of the late leader Yasser Arafat in Gaza City, Monday. Nov. 12, 2007. Hamas security forces opened fire at the mass rally commemorating the death of the late Palestinian leader, violently dispersing the largest public display of support for the rival Fatah movement since Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in June. Five people were killed and at least 31 were wounded, medical officials and Fatah said.(AP Photo/Khalil Hamra)

It would appear that Hamas has attacked a gathering of Fatah supporters who had the audacity to organise a memorial ceremony in the former group's stronghold. Notice the editorial content provided in the caption, by the way. "Gunfire" killed people, "clashes" caused the violence. It's almost as if the press is trying to go out of their collective way to absolve Hamas of any guilt in this conflict, in contrast to just about every other event that directly blames the IDF for any potential casualties.

You know, the usual charges like, "Israeli bullets killed," and "Israeli bulldozers demolished."

Gunfire killed at least five people on Monday at a Fatah memorial rally for Yasser Arafat that drew hundreds of thousands of supporters of the defeated faction in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, a medic said. I'll be tracking photos of the rally, and the resulting chaos, following the break. Please note that some of the photographs are somewhat graphic, so viewer discretion is advised. Continue reading »
