(Friend of) Rage Boy Sighting

There appears to have been a "pro-freedom" protest in Indian-controlled Kashmir over the weekend, the type of event that Rage Boy used to love to attend. And, while Rage Boy is still nowhere to be seen, some of his friends seem to have made the trip this time:

Kashmiri Muslim separatist leaders shout pro-freedom slogans during a protest in Magam, some 25 kilometers (16 miles) north of Srinagar, India, Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007. Hundreds of people clashed with police Sunday in the Indian portion of Kashmir, hours after burying a 20-year-old man killed by police a day earlier. At least 35 people were injured. Those of you who've followed the "Rage Boy" series on this website will hopefully recognize Rage Giant in the picture above. Oh, and some context would probably be in order:—If the caption above left you with the impression that the Indian police forces just go about all of Kashmir, randomly killing Muslims, be sure to check out the following picture, taken during the Muslim riots at which the 20-year-old man was killed:

Kashmiri Muslim villagers set a police vehicle on fire during a protest in Magam 30 km (18 miles) west of Srinagar December 15, 2007. One person was killed and seven others were wounded when police opened fire on hundreds of demonstrators demanding a college in their town, protesters said. Five policemen were also wounded in the clashes. REUTERS/Danish Ismail (INDIAN-ADMINISTERED KASHMIR)

More photos of the original riots, and the subsequent rent-a-mob "pro-freedom" protests, can be found beyond the fold. Continue reading »

Rage Boy: Palestine

Don't let his faux-outrage [Ed.:—Or perfect hair. Dang it, why do the best punchlines always come to me too late?! Curses!] fool you: It looks like this gentleman is really trying to get the attention of the press. So far, his ploy is working. From today:

A Palestinian demonstrator argues with an Israeli soldier during a demonstration against Israel's separation barrier at the village of Bilin, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. Israel says the barrier is necessary to keep suicide bombers out while Palestinians call it a land grab. (AP Photo/Sebastian Scheiner)

Last week (original photo undated, I captured it on the 9th of December):

Rage Boy: Cuba

Gateway Pundit has found that Cuba has its own Rage Boy. Or would that be Chico del Furia?

Do you hear his (Castro-approved™) Rage?

Rage Boy Watch: Srinagar 30-Nov-2007

The All-Parties Hurriyat Conference, party of Rage Boy, seems to have hosted a "pro-freedom" protest over in Srinagar today. Will our eternally-enraged friend make an appearance? Only time will tell...

A supporter of hardliner fraction All Parties Hurriyat Conference shouts pro-freedom slogans during a demonstration outside a mosque after Friday prayers, in Srinagar, India, Friday, Nov. 30, 2007. The activists alleged human rights violations by Indian security forces in Indian portion of Kashmir. (AP Photo/ Dar Yasin)

Update: Negatory. While we've seen some very familiar faces in the group, it would appear that Rage Boy was a no-show for this protest. Or if he was there, he was ignored by the reporters. (It's interesting to see the AFP step back and show us a glimpse of some of the other photographers present for this event. Are they finally heeding Christopher Hitchens' advice?)

Rage Boy Photoshop Contest: The Results Are In!

Welcome, lizardoids! Always good to see you 'round here. Don't forget to hit the giant orange button on the left-hand side of this screen, hint hint hint! (Additional diatribe moved over here.)

In Patrick French's article in the Daily Mail (UK), which we discussed earlier, a series of Rage Boy photoshops (originally from here) was presented to Shakheel Bhat. I've decided to archive them here, so you can see permanently the things which anger Rage Boy so much.

The Winner

My congratulations are due to Scott, who has been awarded the title of Most Offensive Photoshop by Rage Boy himself. Scott, be sure to leave a note in the comments below, and claim the glory that is due your title!

"Shakeel stopped on an image of his face superimposed on a pig."

#88 Scott on 2007-07-04 22:56

The rest can be found following the break. For full context, here is the original passage from Patrick's article:

Since he is unable to read properly, I had presumed that Shakeel would have a limited idea of the extent of his internet fame. But he showed me a pair of folders.

Some friends had trawled through different sites and printed off computer-altered pictures of him.

Shakeel leafed through the pages: Islamic Rage Boy on clothes, being force-fed a pork chop, as a vampire, as a beer bottle, as a woman in a bikini, as 'Jihady Idol', as 'Adolf Mohammed Rage Boy', distended and jabbing his finger at a photographer above a quote from Christopher Hitchens: "It's impossible to satisfy Rage Boy and his ilk. It's stupid to try."

One picture showed what looked like an American preacher holding a microphone while wearing a Rage Boy baseball cap. Shakeel stopped on an image of his face superimposed on a pig.

He looked profoundly shocked and upset by this picture. What did he feel?

"I surely get hurt when I see these pictures," he said. "This is terrorism for me. The people who do this are showing their own culture, so why do they tell us that we are uncivilised?'

Rage Boy Sighting: Daily Mail (UK)

Photoshop Contest results, as judged by Rage Boy himself, are here!

Rage Boy, ca. October 2007

Thanks to Buckley F. Williams for sending the article along. It's the standard lengthy exploration of the life and times of Rage Boy, parts of which are surely true, and some of which is likely fabrication. The basic idea is the same: He is the poor, noble Muslim who is parading against the evil and decadent West. You know the formula by now: Find the most vile and hateful comments in the blogosphere that you can, and publish them as if they're the only opinion on Rage Boy's theatrics. It never hurts to invent out of whole cloth a myth that all Americans have Rage Boy bumperstickers on their cars. But still, even after all of Mr. French's hyperbole, there's plenty to like about this story.

First and foremost, it would seem that Potfry's excellent Rage Boy merchandise is selling to exactly the right kind of people:

An intelligence officer at the Ministry of Defence in London told me he drinks his coffee from an Islamic Rage Boy mug.

I'll be continuing this beyond the fold. You'll definitely not believe what's coming next. Or maybe, you'll believe it all too well.

Bonus: If you'd like to see some of the photoshopped images of Shakheel Bhat that have aggravated him to such an extent, here they are. We received somewhere in the order of hundreds of responses to this contest request, the very best of which I permanently catalogued here on Snapped Shot. In the process of reviewing entries, I did make a point of deleting some which were truly horrific, by the way. There's a fine line between parody and indecency, and this site would prefer to remain on the safe side of it, which would hopefully be some form of consolation to Mr. French and Mr. Bhat.

Rage Girl

Original photo here. A different shot here. She really is the perfect match for Shakeel, isn't she?

If only she were closer to Srinagar—I'm thinking that she and Shakeel "Rage Boy" Bhat would be a match made in Outer Heck.

Police fired tear gas and battered thousands of lawyers protesting President Gen. Newsweek Discovers Jihadi Rage?

A couple of people have sent me Newsweek's latest cover story, which shows one of the photos from one of the various "days of rage" we've experienced over the past year. While this gentleman is certainly raging, he's not Rage Boy. I thought I covered this photo when it first happened, but can't seem to find it in my archives at the moment. If I do run across it, I'll be updating this page, so be sure to stay tuned!

Genuinely fake rage.

oh yeah: h/t "Tom Jones" and Jay.

Friends of Rage Boy: Lurch

Why bother with protests, when you have your own personal giant to take care of the rabble? At what must be 7 feet tall, this gentleman is surely the talk of the town. He's definitely quite adept at giving the Indian police force their money's worth of a fight.

Kashmiri Muslim supporters of Hurriyat Conference hardline faction shout slogans against the Chief Minister of the western Indian state of Gujarat Narendra Modi during a demonstration in Srinagar, India, Friday, Oct, 26, 2007. The protesters were demanding action against Modi for his alleged involvement in the 2002 Gujarat communal riots. (AP Photo /Dar Yasin)

I'll see if I can find more pictures of this protest on the other wires. Until then, feel free to check out other pictures of Lurch below the fold! Continue reading »

Real Life! Rage Boy Sighting

CNN affiliate IBN Live catches the Rage Boy fever!

Thanks to Weasel Zippers, via Hot Air, we get to see a live television interview of Shakheel Bhat, the world-famous Rage Boy. Watch carefully, by the way—IBN quotes Snapped Shot early in the report.

Don't forget to buy your Rage Boy swag here. It really makes him mad. And if you're coming here from IBN Live, feel free to share your thoughts. I always enjoy hearing from new readers!

Oh, and for the record, there hasn't been a new "Rage Boy Sighting" of Mr. Bhat in a very long time. I'm definitely starting to miss the li'l fellow, though his successors are certainly making a valiant effort.

Rage Boy in Training

Original photo here.

Lookee lookee, it's a RBIT (pronounced "Ribbit," per the standards of Military Acronymification)

Hundreds of angry villagers clashed with police Tuesday in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir, claiming the army had killed Shah, who they said was a student, in a faked gunbattle and branded him a rebel. Mr. Bhat would definitely be proud. If he weren't so busy being angry, that is.

For more Rage Boys in Training, check out the extended version of this article. None of these guys can compare to the man himself, of course.

Update: Ouch, looks like Potfry & Co. got pwn3d by the Patent and Trade Office. You can always count on Gub'mint lawyers to remove any last vestige of fun from our public lives. Continue reading »

Rage Boy Sightings

"1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. We know who al-Guardian works for!"

The boys at TNOYF have hit the airwaves yet again, this time speaking with the BBC's World Have Your Say program and for an al-Guardian podcast. As always, I highly recommend paying them a visit so you can hear the fun and excitement!

I'm also pleased and somewhat befuddled to say that a writer for Mother Jones, the iconic Trotskyist (and please do correct me if I'm wrong, guys) left-of-centre magazine in the United States, has discovered Rage Boy. I'm extending a warm welcome to all y'all, even if we do disagree on just about everything. As evil as I might be, I still try to be very polite.

(It's what Dick Cheney would want me to do...)

Rage Boy makes al-Guardian

Our friends from TNOYF have made it into al-Guardian, the iconic left-of-centre London newspaper. Congrats, guys! (h/t Jules)

Money quote from Ibrahim "Dougie" Hooper, of CAIR:

He compares the cartoon to the anti-semitic imagery of 1930s Nazi Germany. "The cartoon is part of an overall growth of anti-Muslim rhetoric in this country. Someone is trying to link Islam with violence and anger and profiting from it."

It's not like you have to look far to link Islam with violence and anger:

Islam? Violent? Perish the thought.
