Always Watching the All-Seeing Eye

Perpetual Victimology

Can you spot what's missing from this caption?

A Palestinian woman throws sand as she reacts after her relatives were killed by an Israeli tank shell in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip January 3, 2008. Israeli troops killed at least five Palestinians, including three civilians, during a raid into the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Thursday, witnesses and hospital officials said. Yeah, those dastardly IDF soldiers, firing unprovoked tank shells at the poor, innocent "Palestinian" civilians.

But wait, there's more to the story? Uhh, yeah:

Two Palestinian gunmen fired anti-tank missiles at IDF forces operating to neutralize terror infrastructure in the southern Gaza Strip. The force fired at the gunmen and identified hitting the two.

Hmm, one would've thought that the fact that these terrorists were launching rockets right next to a civilian's home would have merited a brief mention in the caption. No doubt, the usual gaggle of "anti-war" groups will line up to condemn Israel for this "meritless" attack, conveniently forgetting to mention the reality of the situation:

Hiding behind civilians is not civilised behaviour.

More photos from this event following the break—some of which may be slightly graphic (nothing too major yet). Pay close attention to the discrepancies between all of the accounts.

Update: The captions are now reading that eight people have died in the "bombardments." The increased number is presumably intended to enhance the "drama" of the wire reports, but from all appearances, two terrorists were killed outside of the civilian home, and another four to six terrorists were killed in an air strike, which are technically two separate events.

Notice the AFP's use of the loaded term "blitz" to describe the IDF's coördinated anti-terror operation... Continue reading »

Extreme Irony

It would appear that the Hezbollah-supporting students of Lebanon are sorely lacking a supreme sense of irony as well. Notice what the text on their banners says, and then compare it to how their cowardly hero behaves—particularly with respect to "guns:"

Lebanese University students and Hezbollah supporters, hold banners that read in Arabic: 'Your delegation, Saniora, doesn't represent us' and 'The fate of nations is decided with guns' as they protest against the Annapolis conference, in the southern city of Sidon, Lebanon Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. Lebanon moved closer to a deal for army chief Gen. Michel Suleiman to become the next president in the first signs of a breakthrough between its divided factions, after the Annapolis conference eased tensions between their main backers, the United States and Syria. Berries, for Berries' Sake

Sigh. Are shameless photo-ops like this really necessary? Do they tell us anything newsworthy that we didn't already know—other than the fact that Syria has been completely ignoring the Golan Heights until it found that the territory could be used to weaken Israel? Was it really appropriate to put the girl next to such an emotional construct as barbed-wire, which could as easily have been placed by the Syrians as by the Israelis?

A girl tastes berries grown on barbwire on the Syrian side of the Golan heights November 18, 2007. After decades of neglect, Syria is pouring money into services in frontline Golan territory to draw back residents -- and help raise the profile of an issue it wants back on the international agenda - the renewed Syrian diplomatic push to regain the plateau. It's almost as if Reuters wants to be the official propagandists for the Syrian dictatorial regime. Continue reading »

Ambulance Chasers, Pallywood-Style

Many thanks to The Augean Stables (via Ace of Spades HQ) for this little laugh. I'm disappointed to learn that the video's nearly a year old—How in the world did I miss this one the first time around?

Children Against Annapolis

It would seem that even the ever-peaceful youths of the Palestinian terror-tories are lining up against Annapolis. Who would've expected such a position, from such a peaceful specimen as this:

A young Palestinian Hamas supporter holds a toy gun as he and others gather during a protest against the upcoming United States sponsored Annapolis meeting, in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 Israeli, Palestinian, Arab and world leaders are set to meet in Annapolis, Maryland next week at a U.S. hosted peace conference. The arabic text reads 'The is no God but God, and Muhammed is his prophet. ' (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Far be it from me to state the obvious, but there is absolutely zero chance of success at Annapolis, considering that one side of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict has been raised for generations with an irrational hatred that can never be negotiated away.

Children of Convenience

It's Friday, which means it's time for yet another protest calling for the opening of the Gaza border. And lo and behold, it would appear that Hamas has trotted out one of our regular (and very adorable) little anti-Israelis in this little rally. Of course, events like these are nothing but attempts by Hamas to shield their "more" violent members behind the cloak of innocent women, children, and elderly—which is a ruse. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hamas Islamists, who seized control of the Gaza Strip in June, would take over the West Bank if Israel pulled out of the territory, a senior Hamas leader said on Friday. REUTERS/Ismail Zaydah (GAZA)

I'll say it again:—It is absolutely surreal to be able to watch someone grow up over such a vast distance for no reason other than they make for a convenient propaganda ploy for the cameras. If this keeps up, I think I'm going to have to dub her, Li'l Rage Girl. Continue reading »

Don't Mind Me, I'm DAAAAANGEROUS

It looks like I just got a letter from a new fan on one of our older stories:

I suspect that you are the one using this forum to distort reality. I know the story of the women and Beit Hanun and hundreds of men and children, including militants but mostly civilians were being trapped in that mosque by surrounding IDF forces. The women took the initative to try to save their families. If they are human shields-where are the militants they are protecting?? You do need the story to see that they are unarmed. Who are the ones who have the weapons here??

Your website is extremely dangerous, purporting to demystify news photgraphy for the poor ignorant public who can't figure it out for themselves while really your site is just another angry forum to dessiminate racism and hatred.

Actually Dangerous: Children don't invent violence like this on their own. No, the responsibility for their sickness ultimately lies with their parents.
For the record, and I can't even begin to recount to you exactly how many times I have to say this, I go to great lengths to be fair in all ways possible. I am not out to "hate" anybody in writing for this website, and I have no intention of "oppressing" anyone. The fact of the matter is that the press spends an exorbitant amount of time propagating lies told to them by terrorists and other West-hating groups in the Middle East, and I feel compelled to correct it wherever I can. If anyone ever brings something to my attention that contradicts what I'm saying, I never hesitate to admit my mistakes.

Regarding the story above, I cannot make it more clear: Hamas issued a call to local civilians—specifically women—to come out and "surround" (defend) the militants that were using that mosque as a war-staging zone. As the local population completely supports Hamas' genocidal policies, they did show up in droves to protect the terrorists, an action which allowed the terrorists to escape and kill again.

And I'm the racist for pointing out that this is unacceptable behaviour?

The world sinks to new lows on a daily basis.
