U.S. On UN Human Rights Council - 'Pathetic'

Finally! The United States has taken issue with the UN's Human Rights Council, its anti-Semitism and ineffectiveness:

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice "has taken the decision that we will engage the Human Rights Council really only when we believe that there are matters of deep national interest before the council, and we feel compelled", said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.

"Our scepticism regarding the function of the council on human rights in terms of fulfilling its mandate and its mission is well-known. It has a rather pathetic record in that regard,'' he said.

[...]

Two years on, the council is under fire for failing to act on human rights violations in places such as Sudan's Darfur region, while at the same time focusing on criticizing Israel for its treatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

"Instead of focusing on some of the real and deep human rights issues around the world, it has really turned into a forum that seems to be almost solely focused on bashing Israel,'' Mr McCormack said.

This same "human rights" body found only Israel a violator of women's rights in the Middle East:

Last Friday, March 9, 2007 the UN wrapped up its annual session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Guess where they found a violation of women's rights? Among the hundreds of thousands of women who are dead, dying, mutilated, displaced or raped in Sudan? Among the million female migrant workers cowering in the basements of Saudi Arabian villas from the taskmasters who stole their passports the minute they got off the plane? Among the women stoned and hanged for "adultery" in Iran? The millions of women forcibly aborted in China? The thousands murdered or forced to commit suicide for the crime of "dishonoring" their fathers and brothers across the Arab and Muslim world?

If you guessed "none of the above," then you'll enjoy coming on down to the UN. The UN's lead body charged with promoting and protecting women's rights identifies only one state as violating the rights of women in the world today – Israel.(Violating the rights of Palestinian women.) The vote was 40 for and 2 against (the United States and Canada).

*The UN is right. Sure, in Darfur, women are starving to death and also being murdered, but in Israel, a palestinian woman is not even allowed to blow herself up and take some Israelis with her!

Oh, the humanity!

*I know. It is a shame some people are denied the right to martyr themselves, but I just wish they wouldn't take innocent people with them when they do.

Hmmm.. I guess Darfur and Sudan and Saudi Arabia just were not "compelling" enough for the US to take a stand and throw a huge fit to make a point. However, they are just as silent when the UN condemns Israel.

The UN is as bad as we let them be. A true patriot who cares about people and people's rights would tell the UN, "Listen, you are ineffective, you are focusing on peace-loving countries and you refused to condemn terrorism. If we find one more item before the UN that does not meet the level of sanity, we will kick the UN out of the USA."

I mean, the UN helped Saddam stay wealthy and in power.
