Snapped Shot

Apparently, not everybody was feeling the Christmas spirit in Bethlehem this year:

CNN is reporting that former Pakistani Prime Minister Bhutto, who was seeking to run against current Pakistani president-slash-dictator Parvez Musharraf, has been killed in a shooting attack on one of her rallies today. Musharraf is supported by the United States due to his efforts to crack down on militant Islamism in the northern tribal regions of his country, but it should be noted that Bhutto is not exactly friendly to Islamists as well.

Odds are that Al Qaeda or some other affiliated terrorist group was behind this attack—I would be very surprised to think that Musharraf, who has been the target of these groups for long enough, was behind it. Al Qaeda had previously tried to kill Bhutto with a bomb strapped to an infant, according to a recent interview.

Pray for Pakistan, friends. A nuclear power is the last place we need terrorists to take control of.

Update: As expected, Al Qaeda is claiming this attack. How classy of them.

Just wanted to take a second to wish all of you a very merry Christmas! Oh, and if any of you are looking for a good movie to see, I cannot recommend "I Am Legend" enough! This movie is perhaps the greatest one I've seen in 10 years, and definitely has a stunningly wholesome message, even if it is a "mere" zombie flick.

In any case, we wish y'all well, and I look forward to continuing our daily adventures again, hopefully starting on Wednesday!

Charles has an amazing roundup of conspiracy theories that should be worth another chuckle or two.

I spoke last time about the transformation of my local mall from a nice, family-friendly hangout, into a dangerously gang-infested dump—And lo and behold, here's a pristine example of what I'm talking about. I'm glad to see that they are "subject" to deportation after their release, but I do have to wonder how they've been able to remain in the County for so long. After all, if they've been convicted of doing this, what are the odds that they've been arrested before?

Five men face 20 years in prison for the Oct. 2005 stabbing of a 15-year-old male at Springfield Mall. The defendants were found guilty in a jury trial of conspiracy and attempted murder in aid of racketeering, assault and conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering.

The defendants: Cesar Omar Hernandez-Perez, 31, Daniel Albert Bonilla Delcid, 25, Rogoberto Hernandez Portillo, 26, Henry Alexander Berrios, 23 and Santos Carillo-Morales, 27, are suspected members of the Normandies Locos Salvatrucha clique of the gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.

"Prior to the stabbing, the clique held a meeting and decided to 'patrol' to find a rival gang member to attack and injure as severely as possible, including killing," the release said.

The defendants, along with a juvenile suspect, took three cars and found an alleged gang member at the mall and, "jumped, kicked, punched and stabbed the 15-year-old male," with the knife coming within a centimeter of the victim's heart, the release said.

All of the defendants are from El Salvador and upon release from prison will be subject to deportation.

Notice that my house is located somewhere within the map I've linked above. Also notice that the entire area surrounding the mall (particularly to the north and west) is absolutely riddled with gang graffiti, and looks almost completely run down. And yes, we've started seeing gang markings around our house as well.

You know what they say: If ten million sheep do not induce PETA to weep, I'd say their goose is cooked.

Eid al-Adha is the annual celebration of Abraham's offer to sacrifice his son Israel Isaac at the altar, or in the Islamic version of the story, Ibrahim's offer to sacrifice Ishmael. This, of
course, involves the sacrifice of one's "best domestic animals," usually sheep, goats, cows, or camel.

Don't worry, your breakfast is safe: It took me a while to find a photo of the Eid al-Adha holiday that wasn't too graphic to post here. If you really are in the mood to be grossed out, don't let me rain on your parade (content warning: Most images are of graphic violence against tasty animals).



So, seeing how this ancient ritual involves what some might consider to be "cruel" treatment to animals, I hopped right on over to PETA's website to read their lengthy condemnation of what they're bound to describe as "horrific and needless killing." And, to absolutely no surprise, what do I get from PETA?

Update: As Michelle Malkin points out, PETA certainly has time on its hands for far more trivial pursuits. But clamping down on actual animal abuse? Not so much.

To those of you who have been following our little soirée at George Mason University, this story may sound strikingly familiar:

Last week, I visited a Muslim place of worship. A schedule for Islam’s five daily prayers was posted at the entrance, near a sign requesting that shoes be removed. Inside, a barrier divided men’s and women’s prayer space, an arrow informed worshippers of the direction of Mecca, and literature urged women to cover their faces.

Sound like a mosque?

The place I’m describing is the “meditation room” at Normandale Community College, a 9,200-student public institution in Bloomington.

Until recently, the room was the school’s only usable racquetball court. College administrators converted the court into a meditation room when construction forced closure of the previous meditation room.

A row of chest-high barriers splits the room into sex-segregated sections. In the smaller, enclosed area for women sits a pile of shawls and head-coverings. Literature titled “Hijaab [covering] and Modesty” was prominently placed there, instructing women on proper Islamic behavior.

They should cover their faces and stay at home, it said, and their speech should not “be such that it is heard.”

“Enter into Islaam completely and accept all the rulings of Islaam,” the tract read in part. “It should not be that you accept what entertains your desires and leave what opposes your desires; this is from the manners of the Jews.”

“[T]he Jews and the Christians” are described as “the enemies of Allaah’s religion.” The document adds: “Remember that you will never succeed while you follow these people.”

Pay close attention to the arguments used by the AMSA in the first link I referenced above:—I suspect we'll be hearing the exact same types of arguments from the Muslim student groups at Normandale Community College. Based on their behaviour so far, I'm definitely noticing a pattern here.
