Prince William County: Endangering your Children

PWC is talking about implementing a solid school visitor identification system... that has a hole in it that you could drive a truck through.

I'd like to know how in the world the Prince William County School Board plans on checking to see if foreign-issued ID cards are counterfeits or not.

Totally valid ID in Prince William County.

Has President Bush Abandoned Israel?

I don't know if it's that bad, but he's definitely not doing much to help Israel. And Lord knows his choice of Secretary of State didn't help matters any.

Seriously, I can't wait for the day that we have leaders that have the courage to condemn evil when they see it again.

CNN: Fairish and (Mostly) Balanced

I watched the CNN/Youtube debate with the Hot Air crew last night, and had a good time of it. The candidates all came across as fairly wishy-washy, though I must say I was impressed by Huck, Thompson, and Romney. Well, other than Huckabee's declaration that, "It's not always a bad thing to raise taxes." Yeesh.

It was really interesting to see that a handful of Democratic plants were selected by CNN to present questions to the Republican candidates. Not that there's anything wrong with The Fern Lobby, but at least when you present your obviously agenda-driven question to the candidates, you could identify yourself honestly as a Democratic activist... rather than an "undecided" voter, or as a "Log Cabin" Republican.

I highly recommend hanging out with Hot Air for the debate, btw. It's awesome to see the light bulbs go off over Michelle's head when she notices something on the program.

'Cause Me So Cool!

Peter Nalitch is described by Russian blogger Siberian Light as a homegrown, Russian Borat. I can definitely see the resemblance!

Jump to my Yaguar, indeed.

I'd like to think that "me so cool," too... At least, until my Lada goes "бух!" that is....

Rage Watch:™ New Dutch Film on the Way

I can't imagine that the Rage Lobby is going to be too happy about this little film:

Wilders: "Bring it on!"
THE HAGUE, Netherlands: A Dutch conservative lawmaker said Wednesday he is making a film to highlight what he describes as "fascist" passages in the Quran, his latest high profile criticism of Islam.

The interior and justice ministers said they were concerned, but believed they had no authority to prevent the lawmaker, Geert Wilders, from screening his film.

Wilders plans to depict parts of the Quran he says are used as inspiration "by bad people to do bad things."

Less than 10 minutes long, the film is expected to air in late January. It will show "the intolerant and fascist character of the Quran," said Wilders, whose anti-Islam campaign helped his Freedom Party win nine seats in parliament in last year's election.

For the record, this is not the first time that Geert has stepped into the wild world of controversy:

In the past, Wilders has said that half the Quran should be torn up and compared it with Adolf Hitler's book "Mein Kampf." He has claimed the Netherlands is being swamped by a "tsunami" of Islamic immigrants.

LOL! You've got to check out Myrtus' amusing portrait of Geert to accompany this story. I don't know where you found that picture, Najia, but I'm definitely laughing over here!

"Stop Bush!" (No Left Turns)

Speaking of cognitive dissonance: Thanks to DJM for this little gem. I think someone with a can of spray paint needs to find out where they've lost their supreme sense of irony.

What's that? You want the nation to swing to the right? ¡No problema!

Dissonance in Diplomacy

Says the Ambassador of Saudia Arabia at the Annapolis summit:

Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States rejected recognizing Israel as a Jewish state.

"There are 1.5 million civilians in Israel who do not define themselves as Jewish," Adel al-Jubeir told reporters at the U.S.-convened Israeli-Palestinian peace talks in Annapolis, Md.

"We do not believe states should define themselves according to religion or ethnicity."

Says the Saudi Arabian constitution:

Article 1
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a sovereign Arab Islamic state with Islam as its religion; God's Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet, God's prayers and peace be upon him, are its constitution, Arabic is its language and Riyadh is its capital.

Methinks that anyone who treats Abel al-Jubeir as an honourable diplomatic representative is most certainly tilting at windmills. (source: The Elder)

Anti-Annapolis Protests: Day 2?

I'm not seeing much activity on the wires in terms of anti-Annapolis protests today. I'd say this is related to it, though: At the funeral for the man that was killed in the West Bank protests yesterday, "clashes" broke out between Fatah goons security forces and Hamas goons mourners.

Of course, I'll keep you posted if anything does manage to show up today.

Disgusting Sign of the Times

Last night, around $1,500 worth of Christmas Trees intended to be sold by Boy Scouts was stolen in Woodbridge. Sure, parts of the city are known locally as "Hoodbridge" for a reason, but Dale Boulevard hasn't traditionally been a "bad" area of town.

A couple of Boy Scout troops lost more than $1,500 worth of Christmas trees to thieves between Nov. 19 and Friday.
Troop 1390 out of Dale City and Troop 1396 out of Lake Ridge set up shop every year in the lot in front of the SunTrust Bank in the Forestdale Plaza on Dale Boulevard.

The Scouts generally get a semi-truck load of balsam firs from Nova Scotia, said Doug Doerr, the scoutmaster for Troop 1390.

This year someone stole 34 of the 300 trees the Scouts ordered.

"We have never had a situation like this," said Doerr, who has been involved with the tree lot since 1999. "It's really disappointing."

Somewhere, Santa is surely in tears.

Update: Yeah, he definitely is, and it looks something like this:

Here's Santa after he had to shutter his first radio station.

Daily (ex?) Dictator

I guess this means I won't be able to refer to Pakistan as a "military dictatorship" any more...

Paris Riots, Day 3

It looks like the riots continued last night in France, with over a thousand police officers deployed to try and quell the unrest. There are some signs that, as in the previous two flare-ups, the riots are spreading to other "disadvantaged" areas in town. And, just as quickly as ever, the traditional meme that these "youths" are somehow rioting because they're discriminated against is already being bandied about, yet it would seem to me that the fact that these "disadvantaged" enclaves even exist suggests that these people are getting more than enough help (in the form of "social welfare") from the government. I'd even go so far to say that they're unemployed in such high proportion because they would rather not work, and collect the resulting welfare payments.

But hey, what do I know?

Finally, the all-knowing Frogman speaks! You'll definitely want to hear what Le Expert has to say. But first, a taste:

Anybody with half an interest for the pathetic doings and wrongdoings of the French political caste(1) will remember then Minister of the Interior(2) Sarkozy's chest-beating promise hurled back at a Paris suburb resident upset with the Summer 2005(3) state of affairs in the occupied Banlieue strip to "clean it all up with a Kärcher", a best-selling German high-pressure hosing appliance, among other well-known tough-talk by the future President of La République.(4)

As always with Sarkozy, this genuine incarnation of the "All style, no substance" motto often attributed to the French at large(5), the cleaning spree never came, and rather than Police forces with high pressure washers, the streets were first flooded with taxpayer funded entertainment centers and sport complexes quickly trashed by the "disaffected youth", lavish subsidies to various acteurs sociaux, leftist NGOs and Islamic associations on the false premises and promises that they would fix things over there, before they had, as it becomes obvious today, to be once again cauterized by torching at the hand of the aforementioned youth, a politically correct shortcut for "Young French Muslims of Mostly Arab and African descent".

Ugh. All the touch-up paint in the world is not going to make me any happier about this mess:

Sad Saturn.

"Private School 101"

I knew there was a reason we were planning on keeping our kids out of public schools. Reports Black Velvet Bruce Lee:

Apparently there’s something new in the curriculum of the Prince William County School System of which I was previously unaware:

[George Bush] is openly Christian and ties his religion too much to his politics. The USA is about equal representation and diversity. We need to work VERY hard on making people other religions feel like they are welcome in our culture. 9/11 and the backlash by anti-western fundamentalists is proof of this. Occupying another nation is NOT the best way to do this.

Seriously, if anyone considers this to be a "proper" education, we'd all be better off deleting our school system entirely and starting over.

Update: Amazingly, it really could be worse. What in the world are we thinking these days?

"De Lazors Did It!"

Apparently, Thuggo Chavez is claiming that he barely escaped being murderized... by a laaaaaaaaaser (translation via FreeRepublic):

Chavez reiterates that 'everything indicates they're trying to kill me'

...

In the [campaign] event, he repeated that recently "a strange light traveled through my body, around here, where my heart is, and then around here", he said while pointing to his head.

One wonders if there was a shark attached to said "laser."

Which reminds me:

Shark: "Mmmm, chewy Hugo treats!"
