Always Watching the All-Seeing Eye

Voting has begun!

Catching Up to my Gray Hair

So this is what it feels like to be 30, huh? Yeesh!

One question: Am I still allowed to act my shoe size?

How Original

Now Hezbullah is getting involved in the video game industry? Where have I heard that before?

Children play the computer game "Special Force 2" during its introduction to the media in the Beirut suburbs August 16, 2007. Raid Israel to capture soldiers, battle tanks in the valleys of south Lebanon and launch Katyusha rockets at Israeli towns -- the new Hezbollah computer game puts players on the frontline of war with the Jewish state. If you can't beat the West in real life, I guess this is the only way to go... I'm not holding my breath for any level of condemnation from the usual anti-war buffoons.

Iran Celebrates the "Divine Victory"

It seems like Iran is celebrating Hezbullah's "Divine Victory" against Israel in last summer's war between the two. I admire the irony of the "Victory" part of this, of course: Hassan "The Scoundrel" Nasrallah has spent the entire year hidden away in a bunker, making only two public appearances since then (that I know of).

Pronouncing to the world how "brave" you are, via teleconference from your personal bunker, just doesn't seem like much of a "victory" to me... but what do I know? You can find more pictures of Iran's festivities following the break, if you want.

The Advent of Technology

It is now possible to watch young jihadis and future terrorists grow up from a distance of thousands of miles.

Today, the 16th of August:

If it weren't for the fact that these people advocate the total annihilation of Israel, I'd almost say this was cute.

Daily Dictator

Remember that "unanimous" election that they just got done with back in May over in Syria? Well, it seems that, much like we predicted, if you were brave enough to vote against Bashar al-Assad (and they do make it pretty obvious that you wouldn't want to), bad things will happen:

According to the Akhbar Al-Sharq website, the Syrian intelligence apparatus has arrested Syrian citizen Mesbah 'Alaa Al-Din, from Al-Ladhaqiya province, because in the May 2007 referendum he voted against a second term for Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

The Syrian Human Rights Organization has reported that no trace of Al-Din has been found following his arrest, and that the intelligence apparatus is refusing to release any information about him.

My prayers will be with Mr al-Din's family, because there is no doubt that the government of Nancy Pelosi's most intimate friend has not allowed him to survive his fatal vote.

My Democratic friends: is 97% of the vote still a "mandate" when the result of voting against the regime is fatal?

It sure is dark in here... (CATASTROPHIC Failure!)

"This will teach Brian a lesson in backups, if nothing else."
A catastrophic failure has occurred, and the server that Snapped Shot lives on has been erased. Phill and I are in the process of restoring our backups, but neither of us have backups for the past few days. The website will be back up as soon as we can get the duct tape and band-aids put back on...

Now would be a great time to request your help, by the way. If you enjoy Snapped Shot, and would like to keep it running, please consider giving a buck or two to Phill for his hard work. If it weren't for his effort, this website would literally not have a place to call home.

UPDATE: Phill tells me that we'd need something near $275 in order to move into a more stable facility... I'm going to pitch in towards it, and hope that you consider this website worth it enough to do so as well. :-)

Update 2: I've been able to restore all of the articles up to 4-Aug-2007. There are a *bunch* missing since then, unfortunately...

Update 3: I've restored all of the articles which were lost, minus one, which was overwritten by the original copy of this notice. We're still planning on moving the server, so any help you can offer (see above) would be greatly appreciated. Just think of the kinds of people you would anger by helping to keep this website up and running, folks! It practically pays for itself!

Thank you for your continued patience,

Respectfully,
Brian C. Ledbetter

My Congratulations

... are due to "the group" Palestinian Media Watch, who have now officially made the Associated Press wires, with this iconic photograph of the "Peaceful" Hamas television character "Nahoul the Bee."

This photo made available by the Palestinian Media Watch group, Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, shows a frame taken from a Hamas TV show for children in which a man in a bee suit, known as Nahoul, swings a cat by its tail. The Hamas TV show 'Tomorrow's Pioneers,' depicting Nahoul abusing cats and lions at a Gaza Strip zoo drew a protest Wednesday from the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Intended to warn children against abusing animals, the images are followed by a warning from the show's young host that children should not mimic Nahoul's behaviour. Keep up the good work, guys!

A Dramatic Departure from the Ordinary

Who wouldn't trust a man with a posse?
Today's China Post is carrying an article (h/t FR) that is breathtaking if not for any reason other than how completely unexpected it is:

The North Korean government has publicly acknowledged that flooding over the past few weeks has caused devastating flooding throughout the country, which has destroyed more than one-tenth of their farmland.

What's so unusual about this is that there is usually no acknowledgment of natural disasters from the Hermit Kingdom at all. As in, if something bad happens there, we generally find out about it through our intelligence agencies, not the China Post.

So, what's going on in Kimjongilland?

If I were a betting man, I would guess that the North Koreans are suffering from an historic crop failure, which may or may not be due to the weather. After all, if there are not enough healthy hands to work in the field, it's rather difficult to harvest anything when the time comes, is it not? And North Korea is not exactly known for how well it provides for its citizens...

Alternately, there is something else going on which requires a rapid influx of cash and donations which can be resold on the international market, and what better way to get a large influx of cash than to cry wolf?

The UN World Food Programme is already leaping to action, so I doubt we'll ever get to find out what's really going on...

Dang!

An elderly Iraqi woman shows two bullets which she says hit her house following an early coalition forces raid in the predominantly Shiite Baghdad suburb of Sadr City.(AFP/Wissam al-Okaili)

(NOTE: The above image has been retracted, and is no longer available on the Yahoo! copy of the photo wires. According to GettyImages, the caption has been corrected to read: CORRECTS BULLETS TO UNSPENT An elderly Iraqi woman holds up two unspent bullets at her house following an early coalition forces raid in the predominantly Shiite Baghdad suburb of Sadr City, 14 August 2007. US and Iraqi troops carried out massive assaults against Shiite militants, killing four in Baghdad's volatile slum of Sadr City, and arresting several more across Iraq, the military said today.)

I saw this picture early yesterday afternoon, but got sidetracked before I got a chance to post anything about it. Of course, this may be the same woman that we covered here this past July:

Baghdad, IRAQ: An Iraqi elderly woman inspects a bullet which she says hit her bed during an alleged overnight raid by US and Iraqi troops in Baghdad's impoverished district of Sadr City, 10 July 2007. Residents said two people were killed and four wounded during the raid. AFP PHOTO/WISSAM AL-OKAILI (Photo credit should read WISSAM AL-OKAILI/AFP/Getty Images)

Same photographer, same circumstances. Possibly even the same woman. (Hint: Check out the cheekbones, and the scar on the right cheek..)

What do you suppose the odds are that Wissam is trying to drum something up to try and make the Coalition troops look bad?

Embedded with the Enemy

Full photo series available here.

There are no depths that our intrepid photojournalists will refuse to go. For instance, here is a lovely contribution from Hamas supporter Kevin Frayer of the Associated Press, who has tagged along with a group of weapons smugglers "Peaceful" tunnel-digging non-combatants:

Palestinian tunnel diggers, wearing masks to conceal their identities, sit at the entrance to a smuggling tunnel in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, on the border with Egypt, in this photo taken late Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007. In underground darkness with stifling heat and limited air supply, Gazans are finding an antidote to their growing isolation: digging tunnels under their border with Egypt to smuggle everything from weapons to cigarettes to people. (AP Photo/Kevin Frayer)

Kevin, I appreciate your desire to get "all" of the news, but tagging along with international border-hopping terrorists is probably not the best way to get objective facts...

Indian women in Kashmir are arming themselves against Muslim militants. I'm betting that this move will be highly effective, and is bound to get certain elements wound up into a certifiable rage...

How long will the charade down in Cuba continue? When will the Cuban government finally acknowledge that Castro is dead?

Anti-Semitism at Reuters?

Aside from the fact that Jerusalem has been a de-facto part of Israel since the Six-Day War, modern progressives sure seem to have a real hard time identifying where it is:

REFILE -- CORRECTING COUNTRY BYLINE The body of a Palestinian lies in an alley following a gun attack in Jerusalem's Old City August 10, 2007. A man grabbed a gun from an Israeli security guard and shot him in Jerusalem's Old City on Friday, sparking a gun battle in which the attacker was killed and at least 10 others injured, police and medics said. REUTERS/Yannis Behrakis (JERUSALEM)

For Reuters' reference, Jerusalem is officially the "ancestral homeland" of the Jews, seeing how the city was built in its entirety by the Jewish people. It is also the most holy city in Judaism and Christianity, who combined account for "2.1 billion" of the world's populace. (Compare that to it being merely the "third-most" holy city in Islam, which accounts for "1 billion" adherents.)

But let's not let facts get in our way or anything...

For the record, the correct original byline read: REUTERS/Yannis Behrakis (ISRAEL)
