Rage Boy makes al-Guardian

Our friends from TNOYF have made it into al-Guardian, the iconic left-of-centre London newspaper. Congrats, guys! (h/t Jules)

Money quote from Ibrahim "Dougie" Hooper, of CAIR:

He compares the cartoon to the anti-semitic imagery of 1930s Nazi Germany. "The cartoon is part of an overall growth of anti-Muslim rhetoric in this country. Someone is trying to link Islam with violence and anger and profiting from it."

It's not like you have to look far to link Islam with violence and anger:

Islam? Violent? Perish the thought.

Terrorist Chic

American pop stars aren't the only ones getting in on the fun. Here is Lebanese pop star Julia Boutros, hanging around with a handful of Hezbullah supporters. Pay particular note to the Reuters caption.

Not to worry—I'm sure Madonna will figure out a way to out-do this pose as only she can. Continue reading »

AUDIO: Snapped Shot on NPR

Here is the audio of my appearance on National Public Radio's Day to Day, in my full, sleep-inducing glory. Hopefully, I'll do better next time. That could've been about a thousand times more lively.

Everybody is getting in on the fun!

The Player

If the above audio doesn't work, be sure to let me know. You can find the full transcript beyond the fold. For behind-the-scenes commentary, check out last night's article on the topic. Continue reading »

Snapped Shot does NPR!

I was invited to be on National Public Radio's Day to Day program for a prerecorded interview this evening, and spent about 15 or 20 minutes speaking with Deborah Amos, NPR foreign correspondent. , for a recorded interview. [Ed.:—Sorry, I must be stuck in "Redundant Mode" right now! Nothing can go wrong, go wrong, go wrong...] Can you guess what the topic of discussion was?

"You guessed it!"

That's right—our friend Shakeel Bhat, the world-famous Rage Boy!

If you ended up getting here from NPR, be sure to read the wisdom of sir Christopher Hitchens first, if you haven't done so already. The man has a way with words that is truly a gift from God. Continue reading »

Daily Dictator

It's never a good sign when these two yokels get together...

"My friend, I have much to teach you about oppressing your citizens."

What do you suppose they're discussing?

Selective Suffering

Oh, the humanity:—The Israeli Defence Forces raided another terrorist base peace-loving household in the West Bank, no doubt in pursuit of terrorists who were hiding within. What do our dear wire photographers think of the IDF's work?

Very dramatic, no? I'd even go so far as to call it quite Qana-esque, but is this picture giving us an honest assessment of what's going on here? Tune in beyond the fold to see for yourself! Continue reading »

Friend of Rage Boy: Graybeard the Seriously Ticked-Off Pirate

From last year's Day of Rage over Pope Benedict XVI's "controversial" speech, 15 September 2006:

From last Friday's Martyr's Day protest in Srinagar:

An activist of Muslim League, a Kashmiri separatist party, shouts slogans during a protest to mark the anniversary of "Martyrs' Day" in Srinagar July 13, 2007. Those Dastardly Right-Wing Fundamentalists

Busted!

It looks like I got pwn3d. The weapons in question have been identified as being completely legal. Thanks to Rusty for pointing this out, and...

Curses, foiled again!

Here's the scenario for you: An apartment near the Federal courthouse in Dallas, Texas was raided yesterday, which just happens to be right before jury selection in the Holy Land Foundation terror-funding trial is scheduled to begin. There is a rumour that a second apartment has also been raided, with the exact same inventory of weaponry as the first. The weaponry consisted largely of automatic and semi-automatic rifles, a 40mm ordnance launcher, and roughly 500 rounds of ammunition. (h/t Ace)

Whodunnit?
The Dallas Police can't seem to figure it out, so maybe we can help them out with a little line-up. Who do you, the reader think is responsible for this imminent attack?

(B) One of this guy's followers, who coincidentally happen to scare Amanda Marcotte to death?

(C) These nefarious shock jocks?

Or, as unlikely as it may be, maybe it was (D), one of these peace-loving adherents of the Religion of Peace.

Oh, and if you answer (D), you will be immediately banished to Political Correctness Camp. Chime in down in the comments section whenever you're ready!

[Ed.:—Alright, it would seem that the premise has been blown, so aside from this joke flopping, feel free to add to the festivities by printing out my picture from the "About" page and throwing eggs at it... Sorry, fair readers, for failing to follow up on the initial story before posting this!]

Update: Oooo, an Insty-link! Hope y'all enjoy, even if the joke ended up being on me...

Then again, that makes it that much better... Right? Continue reading »

The Currency of Choice

And, in a move that harkens back to memories of Snapped Shot's epoch, can you guess what currency is the choice of the terrorist regime in the Gaza Strip?

A Palestinian worker displays a 100 US Dollar bill as part as a financial assistance received from sacked Palestinian prime minister Ismail Haniya's Government in Gaza City. Weakened by rising public opposition to the war in Iraq, Washington this week multiplied its efforts to make an impact in the deadlocked Israeli-Palestinian peace process.(AFP/Mahmud Hams)

Is this more counterfeit charity? A dole-out from the piles of Western donations made to Hamas? Or the contents of the suitcase hand-delivered straight from Iran?

Déjà vu.

Imagine

Can you imagine what the lede would be if this photograph were of an Israeli soldier, rather than a Lebanese one?

A Lebanese soldier waves the national flag while standing on the wreckage of a bombarded building inside the besieged Nahr al-Bared refugee camp during clashes with al Qaeda-inspired militants of Fatah al-Islam in north Lebanon July 18, 2007. (Omar Ibrahim/Reuters)

My deepest congratulations are due to the Lebanese army for winning the victories that Western nations are prohibited from winning any longer. May you all be successful in your fight against the insurgents in your country which would do it so much harm.

As a bonus, here's another "Imagine" for you:—Imagine, if you would, outrage and protest being levied against the Racist, Apartheid Egyptian security barrier:

An Egyptian soldier stands on an observation tower on the Egypt side of the border with Gaza Strip, as a barrier wall is seen in Rafah, Wednesday, July 18, 2007. The main border crossing from Gaza into Egypt has been closed since Hamas wrested control of the volatile Gaza Strip in fighting with Fatah last month. (AP Photo/Khalil Hamra)

I can almost hear the chants now.

UPDATE: If you see nothing else tonight, make sure you load this page immediately! Doug, you've done a terrific job of illustrating the irony here!

Nasser Likes Revolving Doors?

It seems that Nasser "The Lionhearted" Shaer has been released by the über-intelligent Israelis yet again. I can't imagine that repeat photo-ops like this make the Israeli government look all that strong.... Or competent, for that matter.

Former Education Minister in the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority Nasser Shaer, right, is embraced after being released from an Israeli jail at a checkpoint near the West Bank town of Jenin, Tuesday, July 17, 2007. The Israeli army announced that Shaer had been held under administrative detention - imprisonment without trial - and was released upon agreement that he would sign a statement renouncing his membership in Hamas and declaring he would not hold positions in the Palestinian Authority for Hamas or any other illegal organization. BREAKING: Explosion at Pakistan Rally Kills 12!

There was apparently an explosion at a rally of Pakistani lawyers. I'll refrain from lawyer jokes for long enough to chronicle this event for you, beyond the fold.

A blast was heard in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Tuesday, Reuters witnesses reported, and a television station said at least 4 people were killed. (Graphic/Reuters)

Update: Further details indicate that this was a suicide bomber, and that 12 people have been killed in the attack. I'll be posting details as I find them out, so be sure to check back!

Daily Dictator

For the record, here is what a "stolen election" looks like:

Syria's President Bashar Assad is sworn in for a second, seven-year term in office, in Damascus, Tuesday July 17, 2007. The Syrian leader took the oath of office before the 250-seat People's Assembly, or parliament. Assad was re-elected May 27 by 97.62 percent of the votes in a national referendum. For previous coverage of this Pelosi-approved election, head on over here. I've got other photos of this historic occasion, plus a bonus Helen Thomas Sighting™, beyond the fold! Continue reading »

Embedded with the Enemy

What holds true of Palestine, holds true of just about anywhere else. Check out this example from Iraq, where we can see our brave, impartial reporters embedding themselves with Iraqi foreign "insurgents" as they fight against Coalition forces:

Gunmen take up position behind a garbage bin as they engage British troops in central Basra, Iraq, 550 kilometers (340 miles) southeast of Baghdad, Monday, July 16, 2007. The clash began before sunset when the Provincial Joint Coordination Center was subjected to small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades, said a British military spokesman. (AP Photo/Nabil al-Jurani)

How, oh how, do these brave journalists ever manage to get killed in these places? (Insert weeping and gnashing of teeth here.)

It should be noted, of course, that because these men are fighting against a uniformed army, using weapons which—by nature of the fact that they are photographed—are quite real, they cannot (and should not!) be afforded the protections given by the Geneva Conventions. So, if we aren't to imprison people like this, what would "The World Community™" rather us do with them?

I've got an idea or two that'd be fairly effective:

Brian's solution to terrorism.

More of this enemy-embedded idiocy can be found beyond the fold. Continue reading »
