Snapped Shot

Always Watching the All-Seeing Eye

Dial "1" for Housekeeping

I'm going to try and do some general reorganization of the categories here at Snapped Shot, to hopefully make things easier to find. My first goal is to move all articles related to fawning media coverage of terrorist press conferences into its own category, but others will follow shortly!

Not Murderous Enough?

Update:

It would seem that, in less than 12 hours, the leader of this new offshoot of Al-Aqsa has been slain by the IDF, making this perhaps the shortest-lived terrorist group in the history of the Middle East.

It would appear that there is now a spinoff of Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigades, which is itself a spinoff of the supposedly-moderate Fatah organization. It would seem that these discontents, who form the new Abu Amar Martyr's Brigades (very original), are pushing to kill Jews faster than ever.

The press, of course, didn't miss the opportunity to show up and bask in the thugs' glory.

If the smoking doesn't kill him, the IDF surely will!

It's curious to note that the reason given by these thugs for their separation from Al-Aqsa is that, and I quote, "some Al Aqsa gunmen have earned a bad reputation for their involvement in vigilante actions, including extortion."

Terrorist thugs? Involved in extortion? Who woulda thunk it?

In any case, I've got more background of terrorist press conferences, if you're not familiar with the topic. Otherwise, see the extended version of this article for more basking. Continue reading »

Happy Memorial Day!

I'd like to take a moment to thank our vaunted defenders in our Armed Forces, in particular, the Marines I work with on a regular basis! Without the sacrifices that y'all have made, America would have never happened.

After all, what do you think the odds are that England would have granted us our independence if only, say, our poets were acting? Or our lawyers?

Okay, maybe the lawyers had a shot at it, but nobody fought as hard as our citizen soldiers did.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Musical Interlude

This is not the L'arc~en~Ciel I'm used to, but it's definitely growing on me.

The red guys definitely creep me out, though...

Cause and Effect

When a society teaches its children nothing other than death, it will be the only thing that society will ever know.

Daily Dictator

Dreaming in shades of nuclear.

Shades of Qana

The Elder has run across something remarkably familiar. (I love getting Z-mail!) I saw these photos when they came across the wires, and didn't think anything of it. After all, blatant emotionalism for the sake of the camera is not exactly unheard of in the Palestinian territories...

Here's what the controversy is about:

A Palestinian man shouts as he carries a wounded boy after an Israeli air strike at Hamas Executive Force position in the central Gaza strip May 25, 2007.Israeli aircraft fired missiles into the central Gaza Strip on Friday, hitting a position used by the ruling Hamas Islamist movement, residents said. REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu Mustafa (GAZA)

And here's how photos like this happen:

A Palestinian boy runs as a missile fired by an Israeli aircraft explodes next to him and others after they gathered at the scene of an earlier airstrike on a Hamas base in Nusseirat, central Gaza Strip, Friday, May 25, 2007. An Israeli airstrike hit a Hamas training center south of Gaza City on Friday, destroying the compound and lightly injuring at least three, witnesses said. (AP Photo/Adel Hana)

Pretty straightforward, I'd say. I don't think the scene is staged in any way—it's entirely plausible that the boy, if standing in a similar position to the photo above, would be hit by flying debris, without necessarily being covered in dust. Are the photographers trying to put it together as an emotional, dramatic scene? Absolutely. But I don't think for a moment that they set this man up to running around screaming... that's something that the locals seem to do on their own accord. For the cameras, of course.

Of course, it is pretty disturbing to see all of the the photographers lining up like lemmings, vying to capture their own "Pulitzer" moment.

Can you imagine how much better journalism would be if journalists would pay as much attention to the truth as they did to getting glitzy awards?

I've rounded up all of the photos I could find on the wires below the fold. Continue reading »

Who Knew?

Who knew that the incoming French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, was a dastardly Zionist?

New French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner gestures during a press conference at the French Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon Friday, May 25, 2007. Kouchner on Thursday affirmed French support for conflict-ridden Lebanon, backing the army in its ongoing confrontation with Islamic militants and the government in its struggle against bombings. (AP Photo/Mahmoud Tawil)

With angles like this, I reckon the press doesn't think much of him... And you know what they say about the enemies of our enemies!

I expect this photo to show up on Hezbullah propaganda posters in a matter of minutes.

It Could Happen to Anyone

Thanks to Confederate Yankee for pointing this gem out. It's unclear where the failure in leadership occurred—after all, it's still possible that we're looking at a Yahoo! Glitch(tm).

I call for a timetable of pixel withdrawal, and to begin a phased approach to luminous independence immediately.

Daily "Blogging" Dictator

Weekend at Fidel's.
La Contra Revolucíon has been documenting the rather hilarious transformation of brutally-beloved dictator Fidel Castro into a blogger-of-sorts. Unlike we "real" bloggers, when Fidel says something, the worldwide press repeats it ipso facto. Most comical is the Miami Sun-Sentinel's attempt to get, as El Gusano puts it, "John Q. Cuban's" opinion on Castro's death hospital stay:

The Sun-Sentinel, trying to make a story out of a pile of bull crap, went out to interview the man on the street, Juan Q. Cuban , as it where. And bless them, they found a 33 year old construction worker named, get this ….., Ho Chi Ming Alvarez, (his brother Mao Tse Tung Alvarez wasn’t available)
...
Ho Chi Ming Alvarez…hahahahahahahaha

Thanks for the chuckle, Gusano!

When Bad Things happen to Bad People

A couple of things to point out in this picture:

An elderly Palestinian refugee woman gestures while walking through the entrance of the Palestinian refugee camp of Baddawi in the northern city of Tripoli, Lebanon Friday, May 25, 2007. Military aid from the United States and Arab allies began arriving Friday after Washington said it was rushing supplies to the Lebanese army battling al-Qaida-inspired Islamic militants barricaded inside the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr el-Bared in the country's north. (AP Photo/Nasser Nasser)

1. Yes, that is Sheikh Yassin in the background. You know, the one who called repeatedly for the total destruction of Israel?

2. The green map/blob/statue thing you see in front of our Gesturing Old Lady is the state of Israel. Which, of course, the locals in this picture would refer to as "Occupied Palestine."

As soon as they push the Jews into the sea, of course.

As translated by my pal Jeha (via low-bandwidth e-mail), the poster in the background reads "the martyrs of freedom," and the map, along with naming the (Arabic) towns there, declares that "palestine is ours."

When local populations support the terrorists amongst themselves—be they called "martyrs," "freedom fighters," "guerillas," "militants," or whatever else your imagination fancies—bad things happen. When civilians are cynically used as human shields, the civilians are destined to get hurt.

This is a reality of war. A reality, apparently, that is too advanced for our more "tolerant" and "understanding" denizens of the press to come to grips with.

Phoning It In

Sometimes your heart just isn't in it. Check out the dejected look in this poor mother's eyes:

A Palestinian girl wearing a Hamas headband and her mother attend a Hamas anti-Israel protest in northern Gaza May 25, 2007. REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu Mustafa (GAZA)

I guess the weekly "death to the ZIONIST OCCUPIERS" protests would get tiring after a while. She'd probably be happier if they were chanting DEATH TO AMERICA...

Update: It seems that our little Fatima is very popular with the photographers. Check out below the fold for a handful of fresh new pics of the cute little aspiring Joooo-killer. Continue reading »

We've Turned 150!

I'm very happy to announce that Snapped Shot has crossed the grim milestone of 150,000 visitors (with a whopping 228,000 pageviews) sometime last night. My sincerest thanks are due to all of you, who have made this a very delightful 8 months for me! I hope that the website has been as enjoyable for you as it has been for me!

A recent picture of me on the Beltway.

And now, back to our regular dastardly programming...

Bringing Glory to Thug(ette)s

The press is completely disgracing itself in its continual attempts to support the Intifada. Check out this delightful piece of propaganda:

Palestinian female militants of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, linked with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas' secular Fatah party, pose for journalists at Rafah refugee camp, in the southern Gaza Strip. Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas called for a halt to rocket fire and a truce with Israel on Thursday after the army seized 33 senior Hamas figures in the latest crackdown aimed at stopping the Gaza salvos.(AFP/Said Khatib)

It's almost as if we're looking at some twisted version of
Charlie's Mahmud's Angels or something.
