Snapped Shot

Always Watching the All-Seeing Eye

It's amusing

"We'll agree to a truce... so long as we can keep killing the JOOS!"
... to note that Ismael Haniyeh is promising the State of Israel a 20-year truce (in exchange for "guaranteed" Palestinian statehood, including the continued demand for Palestinian --i.e., Arab-- ownership of Jerusalem). Considering that neither Fatah nor Hamas have the integrity to honor a one-week truce (I mean, how hard IS it to "cease firing," anyway?), and the somewhat spotty history of the veracity of the truces agreed to with other regimes in the area, I'm not seeing any reason for Israel to even consider sitting down at the negotiating table...

He was "Better than the average bear!"

This is quite sad: My fondest farewell to Yogi the Bear and Tom and Jerry creator Joe Barbera! Seeing how large a part your cartoons played in my childhood, you will be greatly missed, good sir!

Ouch!

Libyan judges enter a courtroom to pass the verdict in Tripoli December 19, 2006. A Libyan court sentenced five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor to death on Tuesday for deliberately infecting hundreds of children with the virus that causes AIDS, provoking a chorus of Western condemnation. REUTERS/Rafael Marchante (LIBYA)

I'm sure the scientific evidence the court used to sentence these poor doctors was unimpeachable...

(Welcome LGF readers! My apologies for not having details regarding the case yet -- I'm mostly a "pictures" guy, and haven't done any detailed research on this story's history yet. Does anyone have any thoughts on the court's evidence in this conviction? Feel free to sound off in the Comments section below - and do be sure to let me know if the server gives you any guff, so I can give it the ol' smackdown!)

Update: LGF reader Terp Mole has posted a brief list of fairly scientific articles refuting the Libyan government's case on the LGF comments page for this article:

Libya's Travesty
HIV Injustice in Libya
Libya Urges Bulgaria Blood Money
Bulgarians sentenced to death in bizarre Libyan HIV case

Thanks for the links, Mole!

Update 20-Dec: Welcome, HuffPo'ers. I'm as incensed about this travesty of justice as some of you are. To those who aren't outraged, you might want to check in here. Continue reading »

Daily (soon to be ex?) Dictator

Thanks to Gateway Pundit for this gem. Violence? In a genocidal nation's elections?

Who woulda thunk it?

"That's one vote for Amad-jab, 20 million for the opposition?"

Update: LOL! The headline thingy on CNN just flashed "Populist Ahmadinejad stood in long line to vote."

Guess that answers who CNN is voting for... ;-)

Intra-fada

... or, if you prefer, Two-Party Democracy, Palestinian-Style!

There seem to be some reports of some cross-fighting between Fatah and Hamas today, as forces loyal to Fatah have reportedly tried to prevent Hamas from holding a "rally" in Gaza City and Ramallah. This rally reportedly follows an attempted assassination attempt (h/t Gateway Pundit) on Hamas leader and Prime Minister Ismael Haniyeh.

My favourite picture from the event:

An excellent time for studying the Religion of Peace.

Update: We might have a couple of events being jumbled on the photo wires here. There is some "clashing" going on between the Fatah-led security forces, and "followers of" Hamas (which I'll interpret as "Hamas Thugs," as redundant as that may be. Not to preclude Fatah from being called the same, either!). Separately, Haniyeh is hosting a "celebration" of the 19-year anniversary of the FOUNDING of Hamas.

Founded, of course, by the repugnant Jew-killer Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. (Ed.: Make that ex-Jew-killer... ;-) )

Funny, I don't recall hearing anything about Hamas being a "terrorist group" from the CNN International coverage on the boob tube over here. Imagine that!

Hamas: Celebrated in newsrooms around the world!

Update: Allah brings the details. This is, as he says, what happens when one "declares war on Allah." Ace speculates that this might be part of a larger Sunni-vs-Shi'ite war. The enemy of my enemy and all? Who's to say...

Update again: Is there a chance that all of this has been organized as a sleight of hand? I.e., are we being misdirected into watching these protests in order to facilitate Hamas smuggling the suitcase of cash-ola into the territories? Continue reading »

Qana: Fraud of the year?

Looks like one of the disputed Qana photographs has been recognized as one of the REUTERS Photos of the Year (2006) (yeesh, how did I miss that story?).

Mentions of the controversy surrounding the photograph? Not so much.

Is this the new accountability that Reuters is aiming for?

PICTURES OF THE YEAR 2006 A Lebanese volunteer carries a child killed in an Israeli air raid in Qana, 6 km (4 miles) from the port-city of Tyre (Soure) in south Lebanon, July 30, 2006. REUTERS/Zohra Bensemra (LEBANON)

Question for the readers: What do you think Richard's first reaction was to this?

;-)

Rusty has some excellent commentary on this story as well.

The Religion of Peace (and child abuse)

I got my hopes up when I first saw Vinnie's headline CAIR Shuts Down Blog. I'll be honest here: The first thing that popped into my head was, "Sweet! They're pulling the plug on Ahmed's blog?"

Sadly, that was not the case. It turns out that Ahmed (who has taken the time to comment here at Snapped Shot) is actually coordinating an effort to get Right Wing Howler shut down, which has so far been successful!

Ahmed, are these the innocent civilians that you're so innocently defend? If so, we're not amused. I stand with Howler--If the Muslim world wants to be treated with respect, perhaps it should behave in a manner which deserves such respect!

Just an "innocent" mockup of a bazooka?

Playing an "innocent" game of "Kill the Jews?"

Ahmed, your cries of discrimination would be more fitting, if it weren't so easy to come up with imagery of Muslim children embracing violence. Perhaps y'all should get your house in order before casting aspersions on the poor, innocent blogosphere?

I'm going to continue posting examples of Muslim child abuse (yes, Ahmed, inciting your children to behave violently is abuse!) after the break. If any of you readers have other good examples for me, feel free to chime in on the Comments. (Ahmed, you're welcome to chime in too, as always!)

(Consolidated) Update: It was initially thought that Vilmar may have been taken out of context, but after reviewing the original text (below the fold, courtesy Google Cache), it can be conclusively shown that he did in fact say what Ahmed Bedier is alleging.

The wrinkle?

He was goofing off with a parody article!

Do parody and satire count as "Hate Speech?" Can it be considered "incitement to violence?"

I don't personally think so, but I'm no legal expert. Any readers care to enlighten us on Florida law here?

Nice! An honourable mention on IMAO. Thanks, guys! Now... where'd I put the "blush" key?

Oof, that hurts the team!

"Mr. President? Is that you?"
Dan Riehl (henceforth known as "The Grinch of Democratic Presidential Aspirations") is definitely going on a mean streak. The picture alone had me cracking up to the point of tears.

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch!

At least you spared us any allusions to Dumbo...

;-)

Daily Dictator (and his enabler)

I'd be smiling too, if I were walking away with more than 12 million dollars in cash...

Snipe hunting is AWESOME!

Michelle is prepared to report for duty in Iraq. To which Rusty of The Jawa Report reminds us of the delightful childhood pursuit of snipe hunting. I think that's a rather appropriate comparison for the hunt for Capt. Jamil Hussein, Rusty!

Michelle, if you do end up going, could you run by the Quartermaster's office (lovingly referred to as the "Kwanzaa Hut" by the Marines I work with) and grab the left-handed smoke shifter for me?

(My apologies for the cheezy Scouting humor. I blame Rusty for bringing all of those memories flooding back!)

:-)

I Concur!

The original Alabama Liberation Front. ;-)
We need to see a return of Alabamastan! Ali, if you want for us to start letter-writing to your place of employment to ensure that you're able to blog in your free time, just say the word. Otherwise, you're always welcome to guest-blog here at Snapped Shot any time you want. (I know, it's not as glamorous as the ALF's Headquarters was, but I will do everything in my power to ensure you remain as anonymous as you want to be—should you want to be.)

Daily (ex?) Dictator ("I Hate Insomnia" edition)

This could not possibly be a more fitting photograph. For this time of night, anyway.

The "Intellectual" and the Tyrant.

Orig: Director Oliver Stone, left, and Cuban leader Fidel Castro are seen Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 after wrapping up shooting of a documentary in Ernest Hemingway's preferred bar 'La Terraza' in Cojimar near Havana, Cuba. Why stop

...with a bad photo, when you can include a slur to smear him with as well? Here's another example of the press providing a disrespectful photograph of a person they don't like, courtesy The Press Agency That Surrenders:

And people wonder

... why there's no "peace in the Middle East:"
