Always Watching the All-Seeing Eye

Hilarity in the 8th

Ol' Smiley.
It would appear that my esteemed Congressman, the perpetually insane James P. Moran, has picked himself up a challenger from his own party for next year's election.

What makes this especially amusing is that his challenger, an attorney who lives in Falls Church, is attacking Jim "Nuke Israel" Moran from the left. As if Jim hasn't been nutty enough on just about every issue.

For those of you who aren't familiar with our happy little District, the Moran family totally runs this city. Jim Moran has been our Clowngressman for 17 years now. And his brother Brian (no relation) is a delegate to our General Assembly, and holds such a lock on his district that there was no Republican challenger in the last election.

Yep, we unfortunate Republicans here in Fairfax County know when we're throwing money at a lost cause. My own delegate, Mark Sickles, was also unchallenged—though in all fairness, he has done a decent job of representing us in the Assembly, so I don't really have any complaints there.

So, with all of that in mind, it'll be interesting to see who the Republican Party decides to throw at him, and whether they are from the Tom "Look, I'm a Democrat" Davis side, or from the Ken "Is What He Is" Cuccinelli wing. I'm still of the opinion that the Fairfax GOP needs to act honestly in order to win, rather than trying to out-liberal the liberals. We'll see if they're up to the task soon enough, I suppose.

As an aside, what's the deal about running as a "progressive?" If you dislike Virginia so much, why are you living here? Other than the fact that our tax rates are nearly half of the Communist paradise on the other side of the Potomac, that is. I mean, if you're all for "progress" and socialism, wouldn't you be happier in a State that believes in all of that stuff, than try and guilt us into adopting your beliefs (and the resulting burden thereof)?
