Another Day, Another Demand

There appears to have been some kind of protest against "Israeli sanctions" again in the Gaza Strip. The protesters were out in force, demanding jobs and "economic aid." I don't know about you, but these guys all look healthy, and they're certainly carrying their own tools, so I'm kinda befuddled at what, exactly, Israel has to do with them not working. It would seem to me that, if the "Palestinian" people were motivated enough, they could build for themselves an amazing little region, yet time and time again, when given the opportunity to excel, they choose to squander it in pursuit of their goal of destroying Israel. It's sad, really, but as I've said before—a society that continually embraces death, produces nothing but the same.

By the way, nothing does justice to the sheer brilliance (and I do use the term sarcastically) of the Associated Press caption for this protest, so here it is in its glorious entirety:

Palestinian workers, holding work tools, chant slogans as they demonstrate against the Israeli economic blockade on Gaza Strip in front of the United Nations office in Gaza City, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. The head of the U.N. agency responsible for aiding Palestinian refugees said Wednesday that Israel's near economic blockade of the Gaza Strip is fueling support for extremists and shattering hopes for a peaceful future. What? You mean that killing each other in the streets doesn't "shatter" hopes for a peaceful future? Who would've guessed it?

Until the press gets past its overly simplistic, utterly bankrupt old David-vs-Goliath storyline in covering stories between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs, there will never be any peace in the Middle East. Israel is not to blame for all of the woes in the Muslim world, and until we get past that illusion, we will resolve nothing. You can take that all the way to the bank.

Update: Did I say "It's Sad?"
